Newest members of the tribe ready to greet each other with the hongi

Three schools combined for a fabulous three day English Immersion Camp experience where new friends, new Maoris and new tribes were made by all!  Maoris learned to greet each other with the hongi, how to make MOKO (tattoos), how to cook food in an underground hangi, how to make and spin poi, how to sing and perform the HAKA, performed dramas of the old Maori legends,   and even wrote their own HAKA´s...amongst so many other fun things!  Our reporters worked hard to write their reports on the camp, and here´s what they have to say...                                                                           

Food Column

Cuiche:  It´s a cuiche that had jam and cheese and a lot of spinch.

Pancakes:  It´s a pancake that we put butter and honey

Pizza:  It´s a food that he had eggs and cheese and tomato and cheese.

Pasta:  It´s a pasta with meat.

Mix fruit: It´s for dessert and for breakfast.  It´s a mix of fruit that had strawberry, banana, orange, apple and other fruits.

Hamburgers:  It´s a hamburger with meat, bread, and cheese.

Food Interviews

1. Which was your favourite food?

-Agostina-¨Spaghetti by far¨¨

-Alessandro-¨Pizza was the best

-Yair-¨My favorite food was the spaghetti

-Nacho-He said spaghetti

In your opinion, what would make the food better?

-Agostina-Ï think it was great, so it´s not necessary to add or change anything.¨

-Alessandro-¨If it was more salty¨.

-Yair-¨He said that the food was excellent, he wouldn´t change a thing.

-Nacho-He would use less salt in the meals.

Do you enjoy the time spent having breakfast, lunch and dinner?

-Agostina-¨Yes, because you get to talk to the counsellors.¨¨

-Alessandro-¨Yes, I have a very good time.

-Yair-¨Yes, I enjoy it because I am able to talk to the counsellors and get to know them.¨

-Nacho-¨Yes, of course because I laugh a lot!¨.

Would you like to have options at lunch and at dinner?

-Agostina-¨Yes, it´d be nice.

-Alessandro-¨¨Yes, it´d be a good idea.

-Yair-He said that it would be great to have options.

-Nacho-He said that it would be great.

Do you like the portions size?

-Agostina-¨Yes, definitely.

-Alessandro-¨¨Yes, they are very big.

-Yair-¨Yes, I think is enough.

-Nacho-¨¨Yes.¨

Would you add a snack between lunch and dinner?

-Agostina-¨Yes, because I´m used to have it, I get so hungry.

-Alessandro-¨¨No, because I´d die.

-Yair-¨¨No, he wouldn´t.

-Nacho-No. he thinks is okay only with lunch and dinner.

 

Games

Capture the Flag  It´s a game were 2 teams have to cross the ¨line¨, enter enemy field, and take the flag.  When you have it, you´ll have to return to your side, and you´ll WIN!  But be carefull, if the other team touch you in their side, you are out!  NO LIMITS FIELD.

Shark Attack:  In this game, you´ve to be really quick, and run as fast as you can.  If not, the sharks´ll eat you!  You have to stay in the circle of cones, and listen to the whistle once, there you start running.  When the whistle sounds again, you´ve to return.  If you are the ¨last standing man¨, you´re the winner!

English Volleyball:  Same rules as the common volleyball, but instead of a ball, you use water balloons.  Another thing:  No hands, you´ll use a ¨catcher water balloon¨.

British Bulldog:  Cross side-to side without being touch, if you are touch, you´ll become a bulldog, and hunt the others.  ¨Last man standing¨wins!!

 
Game Interviews 

Which games did you play?  What do you have to do in them?

-Luciano-In one we have to throw the balloon to the other team.  In another one there were some sharks.

-Lucene-The one of balloon that you have to throw it with water to the other team.  Capture the flag, that you have to take the flag of the other team without them touching you.  Slap, when you have to slap the others.

-Santi-The one of the water, capture the flag, sharks that they were 3 in the middle and have to touch the ones who were in the sea.

-Martee S.-Splat, I have to splat my friends.  Capture the flag.

-Santi R.-  The one that I remember is Splat.  Also Ninja where you have to dodge the other person´s movements.

Which games do you like the most?  Why?

-Luciano-The one of the balloons because I love get weat the people.

-Lucene-The one of balloons because it was very funny.

-Santi-The one of water because you get wet.

-Martee S.-Splat because we all had fun and laught.

-Santi R.-The one of balloons because I laught of other people comments.

What other games would you like to play?

-Luciano-Soccer, tennis.

-Lucene-Soccer.

-Santi-Soccer and volleyball.

-Martee S.-Soccer.

-Santin R.-Baseball or rugby.

What do you think of games at night?  Do you know any?

-Luciano-No, no idea.

-Lucene-Yes, the one that a team hide and the other one have to find it.

-Santi-They are cool.  You go with a torch and you have to match the others.

-Martee S.-no.

-Santi R.-I know treasure found and of course, hide and seek.

Would you change any rules or something of the games you have played?

-Luciano-No, I like how they are, I don´t want to change anything.

-Lucene-to Capture the Flag.  I would change all the game because is it very difficult..

-Santi-. To Capture the Flag, a bigger place.

-Martee S.- CTF, more lives

-Santi R.-No, I love them.

How do you think we can improve the activities to make them more enjoyable?

-Emanuel Pysovas-using Maori cloth in some activities like in the Haka dance

-Ramiro Franco-facial and body paint like the Maori

-Tomas Lorenzo-nothing, they are fine.

Is there one activity you really didn´t like?  How can you make it better?

-Santiago Ronche-I liked all activities

-Ramiro Franco- Acting.  We can improve it by making it more fun.

-Tomas Lorenzo-Making the Maori posters.  We can´t make it better.
